Contact between People
That's literally what 'kontakt mellem mennesker' means translated and that's basically what the whole mentality is. It seems like the glue in Svendborg kommune, the glue that brings people together. When the office has opened, many different people come in and seek for different things: volunteer jobs, help with a problem, someone to talk to or even help for their own organisation. Next to the daily leader, Susanne, and each of the colleagues at KMM, we also have an advisory board in close contact.
As the name already says - you meet a lot of interesting people throughout volunteering at Kontakt mellem Mennesker. Not only am I incredibly comfortable with my colleagues and can always count on them, but also have I been welcomed so warmly, so that I had absolutely no problems, ever. No words can describe my love and joy for this place.
This is the rough overview of what Kontakt mellem Mennesker is and what it means to me.
Now, of course there are some smaller branches of the big organisation.
Two of those, which are the most important for the volunteer from abroad (in this case me), are Kontakt mellem Mennesker's Frivilligcenter and Genbrugskontakten. You will find seperate posts for those, as there is a little bit to tell about them.
Another aspect, in which the volunteer often helps, is the Frivillighus (volunteer house). This is also where the office is located. Above the office, there are a lot of different rooms, which can be booked by organisations. They can just call in and book a room, so they can have a meeting, for example. There are big rooms, small rooms, a big kitchen, a school-room and even one that looks like a hairdresser. Most of the organisations are in the house regularly, which makes it easier for me to recognize people and help them. In here we have a council of users of the house, so they can also express their needs and wishes. It is Gry who is responsible for the Frivillighus.
Of importance is also the Selvhjaelpsnetvaerk, which translates to self-help network. There are different ways people can approach this kind of offer. We have not only groups, but also one-on-one conversations or one of my colleagues, Lis, will connect people with similar problems. I have no clue how Lis can have such a sensitive feeling for bringing the right people together, but her passion for it makes me not question it.
Cafe hos Narges is one of the things I also really like. Translated it means "Cafe with Narges". It is a cafe, which is run by Narges (surprise), but it is for women. It is a women's cafe, in which they can share their stories and make friends and just enjoy each other's company. Women from all over the world are coming to the cafe. They can also receive different forms of help there, so basically it's women for women. Go women! I even heard that they are working on a cooking book with recipes from all over the world and I am extremely excited for it!
There is one last colleague I want to name, which is Bodil. She is our Brobygger, our "Bridge-builder". She is the connection between Kontakt mellem Mennesker and Svendborg Kommune. Therefore, she works at KMM and at the Kommune. She is, well, like a bridge between those two, communicates wishes and problems.
